Just wondering because I saw a lot of "Internet Radio" stations playing 50 cent, nickelback, pink floyd ect. which is not public domain so what did they have to do (legally) to be allowed to play them, is it royalties to the song’s publisher OR are they allowed to play anything that they bought and class it as adveratising or something? Just wondering and thanks for the answers in advance.

Hello,
Internet radio is being so common these days, whether it’s an existing station on the air, or independant online only. Skype can be a prime hose for these shows, and it’s free aswell.
You would have to consider the Data protection act scheme, for example if someone won a prize and you took their details to dispatch it out with, you would not be allowed to pass them on to any third parties, nor could you broadcast and identification information out on the air.
The CD Copyright laws may to be considered, and any songs played off limewire or bit torrent would be sincerely prohibited, although the Cops probably wouldn’t even know.
If you were to broadcast on to radios, so when I turned my radio on at breakfast time, I heard you on the end of it, you would be required to have a Public broadcasting licence, there is a special one out there for radio stations.
Internet radio stations, I don’t think there are too many ‘neccercery rules’. Yes, there are possibly laws and restrictions, but you may not need to follow ALL of them.
