Remote Radio Station Control

Posted by admin on October 17th, 2009 and filed under radio station | 25 Comments »

Operating my station remotely. I use three pieces of software.

First is TRX-Manager to control the radio. See my video on TRX-Manager.

Second, remote desktop software. This allows me to control the radio computer from a remote computer. I use Logmein.com free program to manage and setup the connection between the two computers.

Third, Skype to connect the audio. I have RigBlast er Pro to interface the computer to the radio.

I really like the remote desktop, as I can run RTTY and PSK software on the radio computer that has the audio connection to the TS-2000. When operating in these modes, Skype is only providing audio for monitoring functions.

It all works very well and provides my radio connection when I am away from home.

I also have AC power switch so that I turn on the radio PC when needed so that I don’t need to leave it running all the time.

Have fun remotely.

The Relavance of Ham Radio becomes clear in times of natural or man made disasters. Remember 9/11, when those towers went down, so did a lot of comm. networks, so guess who actually quite effectively filled the void first? How will you communicate when the power goes out or cable/Landline fails, an do’nt think it ca’nt happen,, become self-sufficient, be prepared, it could save you an yours life, Take care, N8XMB

Ham radio is a little like being off the grid. We can communicate in many different modes without being connected using paid services. Lots of experimenting. I was making phone calls from my walkie talkie 30 years ago before cell phone were even a dream. It is challenge to build a station and to make it work, then see how far you can work. There isn’t much of a challenge to working someone 6000 miles away with skype, which I also do. The challenge is to get more people interested.

I can’t say as much as I’m a ham but I find your videos soothing as if I were hanging out with a real-time friend.

It would be interesting for me to hear a few words from you about the relevance of hamming in the age of the internet and skype. It is obviously a satisfying hobby and brings out the best in people, but why ham? why now? would be a really interesting thing for me to learn.

I have a TS-2000 and would like to set it up for remote operation. I have control with “logmein”.
Not sure how the radio’s input & output is interfaced with the sound card? Is this in the setup of “Skype”? Thanks for any info you can provide. Paul N1RXE
