Easy! This is something I figured out ages ago

Download and install Audacity, it’s a free audio recording/editing suite.

It can be set to record from various sources, such as the Line-Out and various software sources. Pick the one you want to record (Line-Out is good because it records the stream being sent to your speakers).

If you want an MP3 you’ll need to install LAME as well. I think it supports Ogg Vorbis (a superior format) natively

With Nexus radio you can choose between at least 10 different kinds of music. Pop, Jazz, Classical, R&B etc etc
While you are listening you can record the music you are listening to.
You can put your favorite stations under Favorites.

I have been trying to download from BBC Radio Player for months now and so far not found a solution, however I am working with Linux.

If you are working with Windows then it can be done by using Total Recorder http://www.highcriteria.com/ however it is not free.
