Homemade radio made with compactron tubes and many salvaged components. The tube line-up is a 17C9 convertor, 8BM11 1st and 2nd IF, 6SL7 1st audio stage and 6V6 audio output.
It uses 2 silicon diodes in a full wave setup for power supply B+ voltage and a power transformer from a VM tape recorder. A choke input filter is used, with two stages of filter chokes. One is an actual choke and the other is made from a vertical output transformer.
For the filament supplies, there are 2 6 volt taps on the transformer. In the original application, one fed the rectifier tube alone. Here, one 6-volt tap feeds the 6V6 and 6SL7. The other one is in series with the first, and goes through a resistor to supply the 8 volt filament of the 8BM11. A cassette recorder power transformer supplies the 17-volt filament of the 17C9.
Germanium diodes are used in the ratio detector circuit.

Miraya FM, a UN radio station, has become one the world’s most popular radio stations. Nearly 80 per cent of the southern Sudan’s 12 million residents tune in at least once a week to get the latest on local and international news. Al Jazeera’s John Terret reports from Sudan where many listeners depend on the station’s news bulletins for up-to-date information about what is happening in their own country.
Based on my large success on radio stations, I decided to post a recording from the 4GB Sandisk Sansa MP3 player while in the Montreal suburb of Pointe Claire listening to Martz’ top 40 station 94.7 Hits FM (WYUL) in Chateaugay, New York interfering with Astral Media-owned French adult contemporary outlet 94,7 RockDétente (CHEY-FM) in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The song used is “Pony” by Ginuwine from his 1996 album “Ginuwine…The Bachelor” recorded from the Hits FM station. This was recorded on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 in the morning. Also, my closing logo has got the Astral Media ID audio from adult contemporary station 97.3 EZ Rock Toronto.
