My Tunes, part 2

(cont from part 1)

– Streaming Radio Stations/shows/Podcasts(you know, these things were around long before iTunes started calling them “podcasts”)

http://somafm.com/
Quite frankly, THE best set of streaming radio channels on the net if you like this kind of music. BAR NONE. The music they play runs along the lines of underground electronic music, chillout, ambient, downtempo, lounge, space music, indie rock and even alt.country/americana. There’s 18 channels to choose from, so one of them is bound to be playing stuff you’d want to hear. I personally like listening to the Groove Salad, Secret Agent, and cliqhop idm stations. Check them out, and donate if you can.

http://www.bassdrive.com/v2/
This used to be the main online radio station that I’d listen to for a while; it was a great place for some decent jungle and DnB. However, they started leaning more towards the modern DnB stuff, particularly the dark/tech step tracks, and I have to admit, I don’t like that sound much. Still, there’s some good stuff there from time to time, so it’s worth checking out.

http://jungletrain.net/
Just started checking this one out, and so far I like what I hear. Nonstop jungle tunage with some decent djs. Worth a try.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/maryannehobbs/
I only just heard about this show. Heard one broadcast, and I was impressed. There’s definitely some good material that get’s played on this show.

– Record labels:

http://ninjatune.net/home/
If I ever had to come up with a “favorite record label” then this is it right here. Some of the best music I’ve ever heard came from the artists published by this company. This indie label has been around for 19 years, and from the the start they were kicking ass. A good portion of my cd collection for a time was ninjatune stuff. there’s a reason for that. I could go on and on about these guys, but instead I’ll just say this: head over there. NOW. And be sure to check out their podcasts while you’re at it.

http://warp.net/
This quirkly little label is another great provider of decent music. The artists here are defintely off the beaten track, and that’s a good thing. Their works is definately different, and definitely worth checking out.

Moonshine Records
May they rest in peace. Moonshine Records was an LA based company that put out a lot of great compilation cd’s and albums, ranging from jungle to turntablism. I mention them because they put out some good music. Alas, they are no longer in business. But if you can get your hands on some of their stuff at a used cd shop or something, you’ll be happy you did. Two cd’s in particular that come to mind are the Jungle Warfare double cd featuring mixes by Micky Finn and Darren Jay, and Crossfaderz: A Turntablists Throwdown!! by Roc Raider. I still keep an eye out for Moonshine cd’s when I go cd digging.

Soundtrack:

Onra & Quetzal – In My Place

Dj Krush – Dig This Vibe

Amon Tobin – Creatures
